In continuation of last week's post of Belk's Arlene Goldstein's 10 Most Wanted Items for Spring, let's break down the last five items on the list!

New cardigan: Belt it, wrap it, button it, grab it in a novel material or shade. Wrap it over a maxi dress or belt it over your fave tank.
Color blocking: Yep, more color blocking! But this spring you'll spy big block of color in everything from shoes with mixed materials to bangles, and, of course, a plethora of clothing.
Wide leg pants: I'm really crushing on a pair of cream or white wide leg trousers. The images I saw from the Belk presentation ranged from bold prints to streamlined blends. Be sure to pair said pair of fresh, wide leg pantalones with a high stacked heel or...the next item on the list...

Fashion wedge: Who else is jacked that the wedge still reigns?! ME. Glossy nude patent shades, bright corals and cobalts - it's all great for spring.
Statement necklace: While there are still plenty of long, drapey options, we'll be spying plenty of necklaces closer up on the neck. That includes metal collars...hawt.

Product Review: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, B+

So, we're back to putting oil on our faces. You can read my ode to face oil from a month or so back. In the spirit of EVOO, a friend and I were chatting about DHC and their ah-mazing line of skincare products, one of them being their Deep Cleansing Oil. I did a bit of poking around online and ordered a few products and I'm happy to say that I'm pretty much in love with this item.

My Review:

The Good: While it seems counter intuitive to throw oil over a make up face, this cleansing oil removes 90% of my makeup (some eye makeup requires just a bit of remover) and leaves my skin super soft and moisturized. The pump disbursement is nice and hey, if you dig the scent of olive oil, you'll lurve it.

The Bad: Well, 6.7 oz. for $23 is no bargain. But hey - you really only need to use one pump to properly cleanse your mug.

The Verdict: B+ from me. It does the job and does it well. Just like a cheesy cheer - I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending a spring fashion preview at Belk's SouthPark store, hosted by the illustrious Arelene Goldstein. Arlene is Belk's Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction...and she's fantastic. I so thoroughly enjoyed hearing her chat about what's coming for spring and some creative ways to wear the new trends.

What shall we expect for Spring 2012? Bright colors, more color blocking (in creative ways and mixed materials), '70s bohemian chic, American classics (polka dots, bold prints), asymmetrical cut tops and dresses and romantic blush tones. Women will have tons to choose from when it comes to hemlines, styles, and colors. Nice.

I'm such a big fan of lists, I really gravitated towards her 10 Most Wanted Items for Spring 2012. Without further adeiu, below are the first five items...the next five will come next week...stay tuned!

Long skirt: Ah, the maxi skirt. This season is grows up from a beachy staple to a multi-occasion piece. Extra points if you can score said fabulous skirt with pleats.
Striped dress: Long, short, brights, dark, flowy, cut close to the body, whatever works for you. Savor the stripes, ladies.
Boxy top: Perfect for pairing with bright skinnies or layered over tanks and skirts.
Open work: Think big knits in sweaters, light-weight scarves, cardigans and more.
Colored bottom: I'm personally crushing on a pair of pale coral skinny jeans, but look for colored bottoms in every cut and shade. Big colors for spring 2012: cobalt, yellow, coral and pastels.

My Top Three Gowns of the Golden Globes

I'm sure many of you caught some of the Golden Globes last night! While the show itself didn't blow me away, there were a handful of gowns I absolutely loved. LOVED. Here are a few!

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang and a boatload of Harry Winston jewels. This dress perfectly encapsulates her stunning curves. I love the bottom of this mermaid gown - it looks like waves! Plus, the styling and simple, straight locks ensure that she doesn't look too stuffy in this gorgeous gown.

Next up is Shailene Woodley from The Descendants. She's sporting a lovely, art deco Marchesa that I just loved. The structure of this gown was not only different than others I saw on the red carpet but it's fairly different for Marchesa! The streamlined elegance of this gown looks amazing on Shailene.

In general, if I could look like one celebrity, it would be Kate Beckinsale. Girlfriend is all sorts of beautiful. And last night was no exception while she sashayed along the red carpet in Roberto Cavalli.

Some other celebs I loved last night include Jessica Alba in Gucci (holy cow her skin is incredible), Nicole Kidman in Versace (her bod looked amazing), Evan Rachel Wood (the color and texture of the green/black Gucci dress was so beautiful), and Emma Stone (that berry colored Lanvin was lovely with her skin tone).

Celebrity Style Stalker: Angelina Jolie

It brings me joy when I see a simple, gorgeous celebrity style. It can be tough to find star ensembles that are easily replicated with "fairly priced clothing." i.e. I don't know to many people who can run to their closet on a whim and fetch Ms. Jolie's Ferragamo silk top, leather skirt and pumps.

New Year, New Stitch Fix

It's the new year and time for a new Stitch Fix, January style!

This month, the fine folks at Stitch Fix sent out some great transitional pieces that can easily bring me from "winter" (I use quotations because Charlotte's winters are usually super mild) to spring! Here's what this month's fix had in store for me...

1) Lovemarks teal Ellen top, Stitch Fix price: $42


BCBG pencil skirt, Vera by Vera Wang belt, Citizens Avedon jeggings, Urban Outfitters circle scarf.

Riley was dying to get in the shot, so I figured it was fitting to give him center stage. Anywho, yes, this top...I love the ease of it and the funky tribal print. My issue with mullet tops? (i.e. mullet top = short in front, longer in the back) They are not super flattering on ladies who are packing a bit more in the chest area. Who wants to look heavier than she is? Not me.

2) Lovemarks Corin tank, Stitch Fix price: $44

SFAM bell bottom jeans, Limited jacket

What's that I see?! Silver, stretchy tank with a beige sheer back? Yes, please. This tank is uber comfy and the length is great to wear with straight jeans or tuck into a cute pair of shorts. One issue with this item? The arm holes were pretty deep and if I don't layer a tank under this item, you're going to see bra.

3 & 4) Theme Graham zipper dress, Stitch Fix price: $86 & Marilyn Schiff silver mini disc necklace, Stitch Fix price: $40

Citizens Avedon jeggings, House of Harlow boots

This sweater dress was much more tunic like than dress like. This would have been incredibly skankerific without jeggings or leggings. Regardless, I loved the zipper detail and sleeve button additions. However, this dress is pretty boxy on my and doesn't nip in at the waist like I would prefer. For all those expecting ladies, this is a pretty awesome choice and it leaves much room for growth, if you know what I mean.

5) Theme Stanly ruched dress, Stitch Fix price: $75

Soooo...my camera konked out on my for this last item, but it's a cute ruched dress that would be pretty flattering on most! Perfect for cocktail hour or a casual rehearsal dinner. Plus, if you have a cute vest, it would look smashing with this dress. Here's an image of the dress at Piperlime so you can see the front.

Working Out In 2012

I'm not crazy about resolutions. I prefer to add goals and aspirations into my life versus a black or white, what I can and cannot do for a resolution. That being said, working out more often is a common resolution for many and one of my personal goals for 2012. And what makes me motivated to work out harder? New athletic gear! Woot.

Whether you aspire to bench your body weight, run a 10k, hit that Bird of Paradise or anything in between, fab workout gear will help you get there. And you'll look so good getting there!

Sports Bras: For the ladies with ladies, or if you're just seeking a really supportive, well made sports bra, look no further than Moving Comfort. I particularly enjoy the Calli and Juno varieties. Try Amazon for some awesome deals.

Yoga Pants: I love me some lululemon, but if you're not game for splurging for a pair of (extraordinarily awesome) yoga pants, both Prana and Zobha make fantastic, stretchy and long lasting yoga leggings. They're not cheap, but expect to spend $40-$70 instead of $80-$100 for lulu.

Multi-use tops: Whether you're weight lifting, biking or dancing, plain tees from American Apparel are an affordable, well cut choice. If it's tanks you seek, lululemon and Stella McCartney's Adidas line make the cutest sleeveless options. You have a right to bear arms, rawr.

Cold weather gear: Both Under Armour and Nike make great cold gear lines. My faves include the Under Armour's Cold Gear fleece turtlenecks (great for outdoor running) and Nike's Hyperwarm long sleeve shirts. As for vests, nab a cheapie fleece vest from Old Navy and pop that over for extra warmth without the cost.

Socks: Say it with me, Balega. The most comfortable running socks I've ever put my feet into. Check your local running shop or find 'em online. Blisters be gone!

Back to Black...Jeggings: My Top Three Picks

Because I work from home, I avoid business duds like the plague. I'm usually either a) literally working from home in sweats or b) meeting colleagues and contacts in my "uniform" which usually consists of some combination of jeans, jacket and top. I'll toss on a scarf and boots and I'm ready to go.

Because of said "uniform," I've had quite a bit of experience with many a black jegging. Black jeggings are my comfortable, go-to pant that seem to dress things up a bit. I've tried the cheapies, I've tried the overpriced options and after a bunch...here are my top three black jeggings.

1) Citizens of Humanity Avadon Slick Skinny in Axel

These jeans look absolutely mini on the hanger but the four-way stretch is what makes them so fantastic and uber comfortable. The rise is a bit higher which helps mitigate against any plumber's crackage. Plus, they most certainly lengthen the leg line and thin out the thighs.

2) J Brand 901 Legging in Hewson

These classic skinnies host a thinner fabric, plenty of stretch and an ankle-ish length inseam. I wore the crap out of these last year and finally retired them after the fabric was worn a bit thin and the color faded. The pockets are clean and the rise is about average height.

3) Siwy Hannah in It's Magic

These super soft and stretchy little suckers are incredibly comfortable. The pockets are a bit more detailed, the rise a bit lower than average and the inseam is the shortest of the bunch - a true ankle length. While this pair wears and washes beautifully, they definitely stretch out quite a bit between wears. After three or four wears, these jeans tend to sag just a bit on me.

Beyond these three pairs, I've also heard from many a girlfriend that HUE makes an awesome black jegging. Has anyone else tried these?

Product Review: Olie Biologique Huile Moderne, B

Put oil on your face. Yes. For serious. But not just any oil, my friends, a delicate made-just-for-yo-face oil that feels oh so lovely during the dryer winter months.

I was a bit weary when I read up on this little vial of Olie Biologique Huile Moderne in this month's Birchbox. It's pricey at $56 for an ounce (ouch) but it can be used on your face, skin, hair and even cuticles. Holla back!

If we had to pare our fancy skincare products down to a single product, this eco-savvy face and body oil would be a smart pick. Formulated with five 100 percent USDA-certified organic oils and vitamin E, the light but nourishing formula works on dry and oily skin alike. A couple drops smoothes over fine lines and protects against environmental damage.

How it Works:
No artificial ingredients to decode here: this richly scented organic oil blend is free of preservatives and chemical fillers. Argan oil hydrates skin, rosehip oil promotes collagen production, and bergamot oil clears up concerns like acne and redness. Neroli and frankincense oils fade scars and promote healthy, smooth skin. My Review:

The Good: This oil was positively lapped up by my dry winter skin! My face felt soft and moisturized and not even remotely close to the oil slick I thought it would be. Plus, it hosts a light woodsy scent that makes me smile. I even used this during the day and it created a great base for my foundation.

The Bad: Again, $56 for an just over an ounce. Holy bejeezus. While it's amazing that this product is beautiful and multi-use, that's a pretty penny.

The Verdict: B from me. Even if this product was $10 less, I would feel more inclined to pony up the dough and splurge. If you ever get a chance to give it a go - do so!

Stitch Fix: December Poncho Fun

This month's Stitch Fix, while fun, just did not fit me very well. A for effort, C for execution.

4/5 items were either too big or too long. However, I did keep the RD Style Side Button Knit Poncho which I have received oodles of compliments on.

Does it feel blanket-esque? Sure. Is it soft? Yes. Do I want to live in it? Absolutely. Considering the size of this fun item, I paired in with black jeggings and motorcycle boots, a la the set below.

Fabulous Friday: Sparkly Stars

You know it's holiday time when you see those stars sparkling. And two ladies really hit it out of the park...you may want to put your shades on for these shiny numbers!

First up...Lea Michelle in a gold halter stunner.

Gor.geous. I love the fit and draping of this gown. Lea looks like she belong atop a Christmas tree...but in a really nice way. And the hair, minimal accessories and makeup look stunning.

When I hear words like labradorite, chrysoprase, pyrite, topaz and drusy my heart skips a beat. These gems rock...especially in jewelry. As of late I've been completely crushing on the natural stones - in earrings, pendants, bracelets...you name it.

And thankfully (or not so much according to hubs), I've spotted more than a fair share of these gorgeous gems in Charlotte. I've found a lovely display of Coralia Leets at City Art Works - incredible necklaces and vermeil earrings, like this one - a pale Peruvian opal.

Product Review: TanTowel On The Glow Face Moisturizer, A-

A while back, I because fairly enamored with TanTowel...the super convenient little package to add some tan to one's bod. The kind folks from TanTowel send me a sweet package full of more products to give a go and recently I've been crushing on their On The Glow Face Moisturizer, $8.50 for 2 oz.

My review:

The Good: Ok, first of all $8.50 for a nice moisturizer that gives me a golden sheen, smells nice AND has Retinol is a positive steal. STEAL! Amen to that. It also makes my skin soft and happy, providing a nice canvas for my makeup.

The Bad: No sunscreen...bummer.

The Verdict: A-, it's a fabulous moisturizer with excellent components, the minus is for the lack of sunscreen, which I personally think should be included in every daily face moisturizer/lotion.

Product Review: Julie Hewett Palette, A-

Ah, variety. 'Tis the spice of life. And what better way to celebrate variety than in a perfectly presentable makeup palette?

A few weeks back I sauntered into Jeffre Scott Apothecary (a must visit if and when you head to Charlotte) and purchased a gorgeous fall palette from Julie Hewett. The best part about these palettes is that they're incredibly easy to apply and multi-purpose - you can enlighten your eyes, lips and cheeks with gorgeous color.

I snagged a custom color palette, but below is the Ombre palette you can find at Anthropologie or the Julie Hewett website. Most of these quad palettes retail for $48.

About the palette:

A colorful, multi-purpose quad to shape, contour, highlight, line and shine your eyes, lips and cheeks.
* Key ingredients: castor seed oil, candelilla wax, lanolin oil, mango seed butter, beeswax, camellia seed oil, grape seed oil, vitamin E

* Ombre: Contains Bellini and Brunette Silky Powder Shadow, Bette Cheekie and Mystere Cream Shadow

My review:

The Good: The powder shadows is soft and velvety with pretty great color saturation, the cream shadow goes on very well over an eye base and the cheek/lip shade blends very well. Plus, the colors included in my custom "Jason" are beautifully plummy and rich.

The Bad: $48 for the eye quad isn't ridiculous ($12 per full sized shadow), but it's nothing to sneeze at, either.

The Verdict: This palette earns an A- from me. I love the mix of shadows and textures and, as long as the cream items stay fairly fresh for a few months, this palette seems like a great investment.

Freakin' Fabulous Friday: Twilight, Sparkly Fun

Product Review: June Jacobs Papaya Purifying Enzyme Masque, C+

Birchbox has been pretty keen on getting me hooked on face masks. Yes indeed, over the past few months I've sampled three very different face treatments – all of which I'll review in the coming weeks! With the dryer, cooler weather coming in, I'm sure we could all use a face treatment or two!

This week, we're chatting about June Jacobs Papaya Purifying Enzyme Mask: $62 for 3.7 oz.

Details from Birchbox:
For instant complexion gratification, nothing beats an enzyme-based mask. This enzyme-based version quickly revitalizes skin, dissolving dead cells and brightening your overall complexion. It doesn’t hurt that the natural ingredients smell heavenly, and work without irritating skin.

Papaya fruit enzyme, mango and pineapple extracts dissolve dead skin for clearer pores. Sweet almond and borage seed oils hydrate while antioxidants from white, red, and green tea, goji berry, pomegranate, and grape seed extracts protect skin and prevent wrinkles.

My review:
The Good: Oh wow does this masque smell incredible. Like truly drool worthy. After I came to from the amazing scent, I found this masque easy to apply and left my skin nice and soft. I saw a bit of brightening, but not too much overall.

The Bad: Holy hell, $62 for less than 4 ounces? It's a nice masque but it's not washing my car or transforming me into a super model. Plus, considering the consistency of the masque, the phrase "a little goes a long way" doesn't quite work in this case.

The Verdict: C+. It's a very nice face treat. It smells like a treat and I bet your skin will feel supple afterwards. If you can stomach the price, it may be worth a try.

Ooooh what's that smell? It's Ahava Mineral Hand Cream and it's today's review of the day!

Yup, a month or so back I received a deluxe sample tube of Ahava Mineral Hand Cream from Birchbox and have been portioning off little squeezes at a time ever since! I remember reading a while back that besides her face, a woman first shows her age on her hands. So, it seems appropriate that I diligently lather up my mitts before heading to bed every night. This is a perfect job for this hand cream!

My Review:

The Good: This smells de-freakin'-lightful. It also moisturizes beautifully and my hands really thank me in the morning. Done and done!

The Bad: For hand cream, it's a bit pricey - $20 per 3.4 oz tube. However, SkinStore is running a 20% off coupon code: G2GWIN. That's winning.

The Verdict: A- overall. It's a fabulous hand cream for a bit of an elevated price point. If you want to care for your hands, this is a great way to go.

Gone are the heated days of spring shades of blue and yellow and summer pinks. It's fall, baby. That means rich shades accented by cozy cardigans and chic scarfs. It also means it's time for wine...colors...and the adult beverage, of course!

My review:

The Good: This is a super rich cream cleanser that is incredibly gentle on the skin. It left my face very soft and well moisturized - a nice set up for night cream! I also really appreciate the natural ingredients and affordable price.

The Bad: You *really* have to rinse over and over again to ensure you don't leave any residue on your face. This took quite a bit of getting used to! Also, it isn't formulated extraordinary well to take off makeup.

The Verdict: This product earns a solid B. It's a rich cream cleanser - great for the colder months ahead. And for those with dry or sensitive skin, this could be your go to face wash!

Currently Craving: Capes!

Jacket weather is starting to arrive. Hell to the yeah. But in addition to coats, sweaters, jackets, and scarves, I am really digging capes this year! No, not Superman sized capes, but lady like capes, capelets, etc.

I actually prefer the more casual cape sweaters and jackets instead of the fancy pants fur and velvet varieties. They're much more versatile, comfortable and current!

October Stitch Fix Satisfaction

Happy Monday to all! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.

On Thursday, my dear husband walked into the house with the mail...and my Stitch Fix! Of course I galloped down the stairs and ripped open the package faster than I devour a brownie sundae. Ok, maybe not. But close.

If you're not familiar with Stitch Fix, an amazing, deliver-fashion-to-your-door website, check out this post for all the info and referral details.

This month, I was sent three tops, one dress and one necklace. And since last month I was a bit stingy on the photos, I hope I made up for it below! Please be kind...my makeup and hair are a bit rough after a super busy day.

First up, a rust colored, silk Jaloux tank. Size: Small. Stitch Fix price: $80

I adored the color of this lightweight, silky tank and appreciated the sheer topper racer back. My only issue was the fit...as I have a bit more up top, this top made me look like I was with child. However, it looked pretty sweet belted!

I love the cut of this tank, but it was a bit short on my torso. The feel was great too - incredibly soft and I loved the mix of fabrics. The back is super cute too. The necklace shown above was also included in this month's fix, price: $50.

Third, a mint colored Glam maxi dress. Size: Small. Stitch Fix price: $65

I was giddy when I pulled this out of my package. Even though it has a silky feel, this dress is machine washable. Score! The color was super pretty and there are tons of ways to dress this piece up or down. Length was fine for me with 3" wedges (I'm 5'2"). I don't know how crazy I am about the dress neckline, but I liked everything else.

Last, a black silk beaded Greylin top. Size: Small. Stitch Fix price: $115

This top is not only incredible soft, silky (duh) and pretty but it's also super versatile! I was a bit unsure of the cut - it's asymmetrical and ties at the lower left, but I loved it with jeggings and heels. I can imagine even tucking it in, too. The beaded is well done...just have to be cautious when it's brought to the dry cleaners!

Currently Craving: Rainy Day Fashion

Ah, rainy days. The smell of rain, the slick pavement...the perfect backdrop for an afternoon nap. However, rain can throw a wrench into my ensembles, so I'm always on the lookout for great looking raincoats and boots..that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Frankly, I have a bit of beef with umbrellas. For one, I always forget to bring one with me or leave one in my car. Also, I just don't know what to do with it once I arrive at said dry location. Overall, I just find them to be a bit of a pain in the ass.

Therefore, I usually veer towards a rain jacket/anorak/coat that's both waterproof and offers a hood. Cute little raingear is right up my alley. So, below is an abbreviated set of some rainy day gear I'm pouring over.

Wam, tan, thank you ma'am! Yes, I needed some tan a few weeks back and being that I'm not into skin cancer, I was looking for a quick, easy way to gain some color. As I was perusing the aisles at Ulta, I saw the TanTowel. For $5 I acquired a one body-wipe esque application to achieve me some color I so needed!

My review:

The Good: The towel is large, smells decent (citrusy) and definitely covered my entire body. I didn't have any streaks when the tan came through a few hours later. I went with the fair skin application and I had a light golden shade within 3 or 4 hours that remained for another day or two.

The Bad: As with many self-tanning products, I need experience that chemical-esque scent later in the day. If you've ever applied self-tanner, you know exactly what I mean. Plus, $5 per application can really add up.

The Verdict: B from me. The product is solid and lives up to its promises. If you need a quick faux tan without the mess of gels, lotions or sprays, this will do the trick.

Ah, fall. You're within reach. With Charlotte mornings dipping into the low-mid '50s, I am welcoming fall with open arms.

The Review: A-. The color is *stunning*, and truly a fantastic addition to your makeup case for fall. It's beautiful with a smokey eye and also lovely on its own...especially for brown and hazel eyes, this color is smashing.

Stitch Fix: Shopping To My Doorstep

So, a few weeks back one of my colleagues told me about Stitch Fix. My ears perked up when I heard about customized fashion delivered to your doorstep. A kind of Birchbox for your closet, but you send back whatever clothing items you don't like. Free shipping both ways. For serious.

Could it be true?! Indeed it is. This sweet startup is making waves with their (IMO) brilliant shopping experience. How does it work? Here you go...

1. Head to Stitch Fix and sign up. The site and Twitter handle state that using this referral link to move your name up the list! You may have to wait a few weeks as they're growing like crazy.

2. Stitch Fix will then email you a detailed survey regarding your style, sizes and approximate price points you spend on various items...dresses, jackets, sweaters, accessories, etc.

3. After your data is compiled, you'll be asked to send a one-time $20 payment via Paypal to start your Stitch Fix account. This $20 credit is applied to your first Stitch Fix (your first monthly box of clothing/fashion). If you end up sending everything back, that one $20 credit is forfeited. Otherwise, it's applied to whatever you purchase that month.

4. A few weeks later, your first Stitch Fix will arrive! Some pics of my first box below - not the highest quality of photos. It included two dresses, one sweater, one blouse and one bangle. They definitely read through my survey in regards to my sizes, style and preferred price points. I kept an awesome Line and Dot top with a fab asymmetrical hem. I would have also kept the BB Dakota dress, had I not *just* bought it! How's that for using the knowledge gleaned through the survey?! Each garment is also tagged with some Stitch Fix suggestions on ways to wear each item and info about the brands.

5. You keep what you want from the box and send back what you don't by the following Monday. Yes, they give you a prepaid shipping enveloped to send anything back that you don't want! Notes: 25% off the total price if you want to keep all five items in your Stitch Fix. As a whole, prices were fairly competitive with most shopping websites and retail locations.

6. Every box comes with a survey where you can give feedback on the style, fit and price. This info, I imagine, is crucial to the folks at Stitch Fix. The point is to learn from what you like and don't like and improve their picks with each delivery.

7. So, what types of brands does Stitch Fix send you? Obviously, it depends on your style, tastes and price points, but expect mid-range brands like BB Dakota, Greylin, Charlie Jade, Velvet Heart, Line and Dot and more. You can also check them out on their website, blog, or Twitter.

In today's edition of Fabulous Friday, two ladies are lighting up the red carpet with unique and gorgeously colored dresses.

First up, a youngin' who, as of late, has been positively killin' it on the silver screen and in her fashion choices – Ms. Emma Stone.

This mustard colored Roland Mouret looks to be an incredibly well cut gown with such an ease about it. I don't know very many folks who can wear this burnt shade of yellow, but Emma sure can. And how much do I love her as a redhead?! I could not wrap my brain around her super blond hair, even though I know that's her natural hair color.

And second, Gwyneth Paltrow in a gorgeous tangerine stunner by Lanvin.

Not only do I love the color, I adore the draping and the effortless fit on the dress. I initially wasn't a huge fan of the red peep toe booties to finish off this look, but the color combo is slowly growing on me. It's bold, that's for sure.

Currently Craving: Fall Fashion List

I love lists. All sorts of lists. To-do lists. Grocery lists. And my most favorite, the fall shopping list.

Since it's September, I feel comfortable moving forward with what I'm currently craving for fall. I've kept it to just five items (for now) so my poor husband doesn't a) have a heart attack and b) hide my credit cards.

1) Kick ass booties: I'm looking for something with a bit of edge and/or hardware. Must be leather so I can beat the crap out of it and have some staying power. i.e. not super duper trendy, but not simplistic either. I'm pretty partial to the Ash booties shown in the set below...

The Good: The black is really really black. The brush does ensure volume and nicely separates the lashes.

The Bad: Holy raccoon eyes. Inside or outside, hot or cold, this mascara starts on my upper lashes and bleeds to my lower lashline. And not in an attractive way. In a, "Oops honey you have mascara running all across your under eyes."

The Verdict: D. I thought I would love this product again but the new color or formula has me throwing out a new tube of mascara after only a few uses. Sad mascara.

Fall Fashion Preview #2: Polka Dots

I have a few friends who hate polka dots. HATE polka dots. While they are most certainly entitled to their opinion, I adore a lady like polka dot blouse with some tailored paints or skinny jeans.

That being said, layering over polka dots would definitely minimize any Minnie Mouse issue you may have with the print. Or you could even toughen up the dots with chain jewelry, a leather jacket, vest, etc. Styling is pretty damn critical with a polka dot print.

Product Reviews: Short Hair Edition

Since it's been three or so weeks since I went for the big cut, I've been experimenting with a bunch of different products. As with most ladies' hair, mine usually looks better on day two vs. freshly washed.

Here's a quick & snappy list of what I've been diggin' on my locks!

1. Frederick Fekkhai Nonchalant Piecing and Forming Wax: $24 for 1.7 oz.

After my hair is dry I'll typically grab a tiny bit of wax, warm it up in my palms and massage it through the ends of my hair. This works especially well when I add a bit of "scrunch" at the ends of my tresses.
Expensive? Yes. But you really don't need to use much product and the scent and finish are fantastic. Soft, pliable yet structured.

2. Suave Touchable Finish Hairspray: $2.74 for 9.4 oz.

Less than $3 and perfect for a quick, light hold
Even though I love Bumble & Bumble de mode, saving $17-$20 per bottle is most certainly worth a try

3. Kevin Murphy Hair Resort: $22 -$32 for 5.1 oz.

Some lovely friends at Shine Salon gave me a sample of this incredible gel-like product.
Smells delicious and leaves incredible texture, shine and a great curl.

4. Garnier Fructis Glossing Spray: $3.34 for 3 oz.

For the occasions I do straighten my hair, sometimes I'll use a bit of the Fekkhai wax and other times I'll just add a touch of this product for softness and shine.
Instead of spraying directly on your hair, spray a very small amount on your hands so you can control the distribution.

That's what I've been using as of late...any great hair products that we must know about?!

It's been a little while since I posted a product review and I just have to positively rave about the new Stila Natural Eye Palette. I've heard pretty good things about this pretty little palette, so during my last trip to Sephora I went ahead and plunked down the $39 plus tax for this beauty.

My Review:

The Good: I am so impressed with this palette. Sometimes awesome makeup companies put together palettes like this and skimp on the quality. I did not find that with the Natural Eye Shadow palette. Each shadow wears beautifully and is totally blendable. I honestly think any skin tone would do well with this palette. Plus, there's a sweet little how-to book included.

The Bad: Normally I'd whine about the $39 pricetag, but in this instance it's worth it because the shadows (and pretty smudgestick) are of great quality so you truly don't have to pile on the product to achieve the desired effect. I would, however, have loved an included mirror and/or brush in the palette...but that may have pushed up the price tag.

The Review: A all the way. If you like Stila shadow, want to try some beautiful neutrals, like to experiment with colors that are soft and easy and like palettes, you'll love it. I do.

Fall Fashion Preview: Trend #1: Mod

Even though I know many of you across the country are positively melting, fall is on the horizon. Yes, fall fashion trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrends are comin'...whether mother nature is listening or not.

Trend #1 is a throwback to '70s mod. Shift dresses, wide trousers and brights! While shift dresses can hide a myriad of insecurities, I also dig the cool fabrics, patterns and overall gusto that comes along with these little dresses. On the runways, shift were paired with everything from bare legs to bright tights to skinny jeans, boots and turtlenecks. Yes, turtlenecks.

I'm a fan of shift dresses but always make sure that it's short enough on me. Sounds obvious, but a long shift on a vertically challenged lady looks all sorts of wrong. I'd even be game pairing said shift with opaque tights, a long sleeve tee and heels come fall.

Haircut: Done & Done!

So, y'all read the big hairy decision I made about lopping off my tresses. And I did it. Woot.

Before I get to the photos, here's what I've learned about short hair cuts in the past 24 hours:

1. My hairstylist is all sorts of amazing.
2. Bring lots and lots and lots of photos from as many angles as you can find.
3. Be prepared to spend a bit more time and money getting your new chopped cut to look just right
4. Texturizing scissors are my new BFF.
5. It's ok when you run your fingers through your newly shorn hair and you about pull your shoulder out of its socket because there isn't much hair to run your fingers through! It's all about adjusting.

I'm so looking forward to playing with style & products.

Short Hair...It's About To Happen

I've had long-ish hair for most of my life. Well, besides the time that I cut my own hair at the tender age of 4 yrs...then my mother was forced to take me to the hairdresser for a heinous type of bowl cut that I never intend to repeat. But that's neither here nor there. I'm ready for a big ole cut. A hairchop, rather.

I *always* wear my hair up but up until now I haven't had the cajones, the will, the ambition etc. to cut off the locks any shorter than my collarbone. Well, times they are a changin' and tomorrow is C day. Cut day.

So, give me (and the other lovely readers) some advice for going for a super short haircut. Styling, products, etc.

Happy Friday to all! As summer is progressing, I've become very much in love with color. Not to say that I don't love color in other seasons, but the brights most certainly have it as of late. Bright pops of pink, crimson, azure, and the gorgeous color of money...green.

Green certainly offsets her auburn locks. However, I think the red lips, red hair and green dress look a bit holiday-esque. A nude lip and dark, bronzed eye would have been pretty.

It's tiiiiiiime for another product review! Some of you may have read my little love letter to Aveda's Botanical Kinetics Toner a few months back. Well, it took me a while (almost 6 months) but I finally got through the spray bottle...just in the nick of time to receive my June Birchbox with a deluxe sample of Pangea Organics Toner for Normal to Combination Skin.

The Bad: At regular retail price, this little baby is 'spensive - $26 for 4 ounces. However, check out this Sephora link...they're offering it at half price!

The Verdict: B from me. I dig this product, the scent and the effects. While I certainly appreciate the organic ingredients, the price prohibits me from awarding it an A!

IMO, Jennifer Garner is one of the purest pretties in the biz. I also appreciate the fact that she rocks jeans and running shoes while out with her little ones and turns it out in couture at a red carpet event. Seriously – the draping of this gown is ridiculously beautiful. Big fan.

Workout Gear: Yoga, CrossFit, Running

I don't know about you, but new workout gear gets me more psyched to hit the gym better than bathing suit season. I love a new sports bra, fancy new shorts, a cute tank, brand spankin' new shoes, etc.

I do, however, get my hands (and, well, feet, legs, arms, back, abs) into all a myriad of exercise options and classes. CrossFit, yoga, running, walking, weight lifting etc. What better way to show my sweaty love for workin' out than a set for each exercise discipline?

Yoga: I typically go to "warm" yoga. I just don't fare too well in a 100+ degree room. So, in the summer months my yoga uniform is a pair of fitted shorts, comfy top with stretch and a nice, cushy mat. And because I typically keep my yoga mat in my car, I dig a yoga mat bag to keep the surface semi-clean from dog hair and whatnot that flies about.

CrossFit (or cross training): Hubs and I hit up CrossFit - an incredible workout discipline that incorporates weight training, body weight exercises, gymnastics, running, etc. Because these gyms typically forgo air conditioning I all but show up half naked to class during the summer months. Short, fitted shorts, fitted tops as we occasionally have hand stand pushups in our workout of the day (upside down = fitted top) and a really solid sports bra. I also really love New Balance Minimus shoes for short distance running to develop my foot and leg muscles and the Water Bobble - save the environment!

Running: It takes a lot for me to run in the summer. A LOT. I am not a fast runner. I am also not a great distance runner. Let's Talk: Naked Face

Yup, about the only manner I'll go naked in public - on my face. I was inspired to post about a naked, or near naked face, after I received one of the nicest compliments from an acquaintance today. Here's how it went down: (NA = nice acquaintance)

NA: "Hey Nicole, you look different today?"
Coley: "Really, how so?"
NA: "I dunno, you look great, though. Your face - new makeup or something?"
Coley" "Huh, I actually didn't really much on today!" (it's a million effing degrees in Charlotte - no need for face melt)
NA: "Huh, well you should do that more often. More women should do that more often. You all look so much better without makeup."
Coley: "Well, thanks - that's nice of you to say. I'll remember that."

Will I stop wearing makeup? No - hell no. I love the creativity that goes along with makeup. The color. The shine. The art. The fun! Yet, I think NA has a bit of a point. People, especially dudes, seem to really look at women closer without makeup...and I mean that in a good way.

Am I proposing we fresh face it every day to work, to meetings, to weddings, to parties? Not really, but it's fair to give your skin (and yourself) credit that you probably look pretty great without 16 products stacked on your face.

Here's a set of products I love that keep my skin lookin' fresh, clean and a bit brighter with just a smidge of makeup. Let's keep it real.

There's nothing better than a comfy, well cut t-shirt. Since I work from home, I often find myself resorting to jeans and a tee...running errands, picking up a few things, etc. Throw on some cute flat sandals, a pretty pendant necklace and I'm good to go!

Over the past few years I've become pretty enamored with Nation Ltd's tees. Super soft, nicely cut and varying styles these tees surely are the bees knees. My favorite style, thus far, has been the Karen - a split v-neck with a very, very light burnout finish. But there's also quite a few more I've had my eye on...many of which are on sale!

Red Alert: Red Lip Round Up

I like red lipstick. That glossy, punchy color transforms any outfit into chicness. I'm pretty positive that any woman can sport red lips given the proper occasion, color, formula etc.

Over the years I've added more than a few options to my red-lipped arsenal...here are my picks for red lips!

If you're seeking a serious red that leans on the matte side, Russian Red has got you covered. Word to wise - invest in a red lip pencil so avoid feathering.

Maybelline Color Sensation in Are You Red-dy?

For a drugstore brand, this formula glides on and keeps that pucker moisturized. This shade is much more of a true red with a touch of orange and I imagine it would fare well on a myriad of skin tones. I reviewed it a while back right here!

Revlon Colorburst Gloss in Fire

I just picked this one up and have received *tons* of compliments when I sport it. Normally I shy away from red glosses with saturated color (typically too much room for error) but this one is gorg. A true red with plenty of pigment and boatloads of shine. The sponge brush is a bit cumbersome, but because I lurve the color, I'll make it work!

As previously mentioned, Charlotte NC is hot as hell right now. Because of the heat I have finally waved the white flag and chosen to shave my legs a few times each week...and when I do I feel like I earn the right to wear shorts.

While I love my Joe's rolled jorts (jean shorts) from last summer, I'm looking for a few more options to take me through September. Yes, it stays very hot in Charlotte through September. Sometimes October! I'm looking for easy, machine washable shorts that look great with flat sandals or wedges, cotton tanks or silk tops. Versatility is the name of the game.

Here's a little set of shorties I've had my eye on – each pair less than $80. I really despise paying an arm and a leg for shorts when you're really only getting 1/4 leg.

Product Review: Becca Beach Tint, A

It's hot. I mean it's hotttttttttt in Charlotte. And humid. And overall just kinda gross. Thus, I really don't want to wear much makeup at all...or clothing for that matter. But because I don't want to get arrested, I usually end up leaving the house in a t-shirt, shorts and a very, very light dusting of bronzer, mascara and one of my new favorite products, Becca's Beach Tint.

A fabulous Charlotte cosmetics and skincare shop, Jeffre Scott Apothecary, introduced me to this fabulous U.K. line a few weeks back and I've pretty much become obsessed with it. I have this tint in Grapefruit, a pale coral pink shade. It smells like grapefruit too! Delightful.

The Bad: Well, it's not cheap ($25 per .24 fl. oz) but you really don't have to use very much to get a nice rosy glow.

The Verdict: Blend away, ladies! This is a great product for a myriad of uses and skin tones and earns an A from me. Plus, if you click on the image above, Bliss is selling a few shades at $20.

Hey everyone! I typically don't post too many links to videos, but this one really stuck with me. For all of you who worship the sun or know someone who does, it's so vital that you watch this video. It's important, interesting and moving.

Wear sunscreen, check your skin and use your self-tanner instead of baking in the sun. That goes for guys and girls, young and old. And ladies - for the man in your life who loves to golf, shove some sunscreen in his golf bag in hopes that he will actually use it.

My face can take a beating during the summer months. Even though I slather on sunscreen and sport some pretty cute hats, it's no surprise that my skin can look a big splotchy on occasion. A few months back I pulled out Pomega5's Revitalizing Concentrate treatment out of my Birchbox.

These dandelion colored capsules are filled with all sorts of goodness for your face so, of course, I went for it. While it seems counter intuitive, the oils in Pomega5's ampules are like health food for your skin.

Some details from Pomega5:

It may seem a bit strange to put oil all over your face, but this intensely nourishing treatment is exactly what your skin needs—even if it’s oily (very counter intuitive, we know). Each single-use capsule contains a carefully balanced cocktail of vitamin and antioxidant-packed ingredients that work to hydrate, smooth, and brighten skin.

How It Works:
Each ampoule has 60 percent Pomegranate Seed Oil, which is rich in Omega 5 fatty acid, an antioxidant-rich ingredient that spurs cell renewal, encourages collagen production, and soothes skin, and much more. There’s also anti-inflammatory Calendula Oil, hydrating Rosehip Oil, and detoxifying Grapefruit Oil. The Good: I used this particular product in the evening as I just can't wrap my head around a (literally) oily face all day. My skin absorbed the concentrate beautifully and was very soft, well balanced and glowy the next few days.

The Bad: The scent of the oil isn't really desirable, but it's not a huge deal. More importantly, it's priced at $48 for 30 ampules. Damn, that's pricey. Granted, I wouldn't be using this product daily as I look at it more like a splurge-worthy face treatment instead of a daily concentrate.

The Verdict: B from me. It's a really incredible product with great benefits, but be prepared to pay for it!

Celebrity Style Stalker: Mila Kunis

On tap for review today is Osis Dust It - a volumizing powder that I've been playing with for the past few days.

I've recently begun to blow dry my hair more often after gong through a Blow Dry 101 at a local salon in Charlotte. If you ever get a chance to go to one of those classes, do eet. I learned everything from product usage, to brush position to utilizing my hair dryer efficiently. I'm happy to say my locks are now much happier with me.

My review:

The Good: This powder definitely gives roots a noticeable lift! Make sure you dust just a bit directly onto the roots an fluff away. Plus, you can reinvigorate the product later in the day if you need a bit of a refresh.

The Bad: Not necessarily bad, but the texture takes some getting used to. It's a bit "gummy" and needs a bit of working with.

The Verdict: B from me. This is a cool product overall. It's not a necessity but it's a nice option to have in your hair care arsenal to volumize those roots!

Product Review: Laura Gellar Liquid Candlelight, B+

I would like to resemble a mini J Lo. I'm not talking about the girlfriend 'tude (which, um, I probably have anyway) but I'm talking about the picture perfect skin, incredible makeup and crazy styled hair. But because I don't have the funds or the time to get there on a consistent basis, I turn to fun products to amplify that glow in a pinch.

Therefore, it was perfect that I finally used my sample of Laura Gellar's Liquid Candlelight while I was frolicking around in Las Vegas this past weekend. Hey, if Botoxed grandma's can sports sequined minis, I can certainly sport a face with glowy cheeks and temples.

In the past I've used Benefit's High Beam highlighter, which I'm a fan of, but this particular product is a completely different consistency and shade. You can scoop up this product at a variety of department store makeup counters, Beauty.com, Amazon, etc. Expect to pay $23.50 for .65 ounces.

Some deets about Liquid Candlelight:

A sheer, lightweight, oil-free liquid face and body glow. This sheer, light-reflective formula chases shadows and blurs away little lines and flaws so your skin will look younger, fresher, firmer. Stroke some on after your makeup to highlight your eyes, cheekbones or decollete. You can even mix it with your favorite moisturizer or foundation to give your complexion a hint of luminosity.

Exclusive Multi Mineral Complex – Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, and Lysine help protect skin. Gentle Chamomile calms and soothes skin. My review:

The Good: The shade of this liquid luminizer is a lovely, shimmery pale gold. I imagine it would look gorgeous on a variety of skin tones and blends extremely easily Swipe it on your cheekbones and temples and bam...mini J Lo.

The Bad: It's a bit thin - I would have preferred a product with a thicker consistency. Plus, considering the thinner consistency I felt like I had to use a bit more product...not a fab sign for a pricey product!

The Verdict: B+ from me. If I had coin to burn, this product is pretty fab. It also looks amazing on the collarbone and decollete in the summer! Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a new golden luminizer.

Foam Roller
Yes. Due to intense amounts of CrossFit, a foam roller has turned into a necessity. Roll out those sore hammies, that achy back, those tight calves, whatever. It's pretty amazing for all of you who hit the gym or have sore muscles!

BB Dakota Azure Dress
It's killing me that I can't find a photo of this dress online because it's so damn cute. I paid about $75 at a local Charlotte boutique, Boris & Natasha, and have never gotten so many compliments on the color of a dress. Such a pretty bright blue! Here's a fairly crappy picture of the bodice...

Consignment shopping: DVF scores
There must be a few women in Charlotte tire of their Diane Von Furstenberg dresses faster than I tire of drama on the CW. However, their castaways are my gain and I've scored two DVF dresses in the past two months (from Monarch and J.T. Posh, if you're ever in Charlotte!). One is an adorable silk blend cowl neck and the other a classic short sleeved wrap dress. While I'm sure they aren't from this season (or even last season), they still fit beautifully and the cut is classic. What did we learn today? Check your consignment shops, ladies.

DVF Lush Flip Flops
Speaking of consignment shopping, I picked up these brand new DVF Lush rubber flip flops from J.T. Posh, too! While the flips were $32, I had a credit from some goods I had sold here so they were, essentially, free! Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

BTW - these run a teeny bit small, normally I wear a 7.5-8 and the 8 fits just fine albeit more like a 7.5.

Product Review: Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel, B-

Happy Tuesday, folks! Product review time...shall we?

Per my April Birchbox, I had the pleasure of trying out Juice Beauty's Green Apple Peel. Now, I love face products and my skin is pretty tolerant of many a masque and moisturizer so I happy applied this peel and gave it a go.

Details from Birchbox (and Juice Beauty):

We know, we know, we should use more organic and natural skincare. But sometimes healthy products don’t feel very effective. Not so with this Green Apple Peel, which smells like apples, looks like apple butter, and manages to truly even out skin. After just one use, you'll have completely flake-free skin — plus we love the zesty tingle. Major bonus: the antioxidant-rich formula has been shown to reduce skin cell damage.

How To Use: Apply a thin layer to clean face and neck once a week. It will tingle a little bit at first. Leave for 8-10 minutes for sensitive skin; up to 15 minutes for more resistant skin types. Rinse thoroughly and follow with toner or serum.

How It Works: A hydroxy acid complex composed of apple, lemon, grape juices, raw cane sugar, and white willow bark exfoliates skin for a smooth surface. Antioxidants, including vitamin C, protect skin from environmental damage.

Price: $45 for 2 oz.

My review:

The Good: The smell is subtle and lovely! You only have to leave the peel on for 10 minutes and wash it right off. The product did tingle a bit and I saw a moderate "glow" after washing off the peel. And hey, it has loads of good-for-you ingredients packed in!

The Bad: For the retail price, the afterglow and effects aren't substantial enough to justify to price. $45 for 2 oz. is steep, y'all. Not that I expect to wash off the peel and look like Marisa Miller, but I do expect my skin to look and feel much better.

The Verdict: B- from me. It's a nice peel, but I wasn't in love with it - especially not with the higher price point.

The Good: This shade is *stunning*. It's the perfect shimmery, rosy shade with the right amount of brown undertones that makes it so wearable. Oh and it smells fab.

The Bad: You better blend, girl! Like all lip and cheek stains, if you get lazy and forget to blend properly (lips OR cheeks), this will look a bit streaky.

The Verdict: A all the way. While there are many products that claim to wear well on both cheeks and lips, this stain actually delivers. I love the shade and it looks gorgeous alone or with a gloss topper.

Guess what, ladies? It's May. That's right - summer is well on its way. Gone are the days of chunky ribbed sweaters, leggings, riding boots and cords. And what is critical for summer? Swim suits.

I have a few vacations coming up in the next few months, so I was recently on the prowl for a few swimwear options. Product Review: Elnett Satin Stronghold Hairspray, B

Hey friends! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend (if you celebrated) or at least blew up a few Peeps in the microwave. Either way...

Up for a product review today is Elnett's Stronghold hairspray. I've been meaning to try out this product for a long, long time but hesitated because I love Bumble & Bumble's spray de mode oh so much. So I finally took the plunge and forked over the $13 or $14 for the 11 oz. can.

Details from L'Oreal (Elnett):
Elnett Satin is the legendary hairspray of choice for red carpet events and cover photo shoots. Its micro diffuser spray offers a clean, soft shiny finish. So fine, it disappears at the stroke of a brush. So strong its hold lasts all day.

And my review:

The Good: The hold is nice and light, shiny and strong. In terms of the performance of the hairspray this product is similar to B&B's spray de mode, if not a wee bit lighter.

The Bad: It smells like baby powder. Strong, strong baby powder. Yowza.

The Verdict: B for me. It's a very lightweight hairspray and although the hold didn't stay all day for me, it lasted quite a while. It seems like a great product for lightly holding waves, curls, etc.

Jeans. Jeeeeeeeeeans. I love jeans. I'm a self-professed jean ho. While there are a few brands I really, really love (Joe's, J Brand, Citizens, AG) I'm happy to try them all. I've especially been crushing on super flares (today's bell bottoms). J Brand makes some incredible Lovestory flares, as does AG with their Farrah jeans - but I'm always looking to expand my denim repertoire.

From the lovely Chloe I got a little extra nudge to go and try on GAP's super flares. Zomg. I am in love. But I didn't pull the trigger...yet. I was hoping to snag them online, but I don't see the 1969 super flares that I saw in store. So, in case you see those - grab em, they're pretty great! They have just enough stretch to feel snug and comfy but also retain a great bell shape at the bottom.

So, this trip to Gap got me thinking...what other great flares are out there? What are your fave flares? Do tell...

The Good: This is such a fun, but still subtle, spring shade! Zoya's polish wears pretty well and (in my opinion) chips less than OPI. I'm also a big, big fan that all of their polishes are free of nasty ingredients. Each regular size bottle retails for $8, too!

The Bad: This particular polish, albeit quite opaque, wasn't quite as smooth as my other Zoya polish (Riley). Regardless, the second coat solidified the shade and did away with any streakiness I encountered during the first go around.

The Verdict: A- from me! While the application was a bit cumbersome, I love the color and the brand.

Product Review: MAC Lustering Lipstick, A

Oh lippies. Lipsticks. Lipglosses. Lip sheers. Lip balms. I have so many and I love them all. Therefore, today's product review centers around a new MAC lippie that I have been positively crushing on - Lustering!

Perfect for summer, this sheer yet punchy pink with a hint of coral is just lovely. I imagine it would work on many a skin tone and looks great dressed up with additional bronze tones or all by its lonesome with a fresh face.

A very unexciting, and fairly grainy photo of Lustering on me!

Some deets from MAC...

LUSTRE (L): Demi-sheer with wet-look lustre finish. Very slick. Makes lips look soft, smooth, ultra-moist.

And my review:

The Good: I love this shade on my skintone. It's just perfect for a bright wisp of color without too much drama for your mama. It glides on smoothly and there's a fair amount of pigment with just a few swipes.

The Bad: Some may say the $14.50 price tag is a bit steep, but in this instance, I think it's worth it.

The Review: A all the way on this one. If you're looking for a fab summer shade with just a bit of punch, MAC's Lustering fits the bill very nicely.

Do or Do Not: Jumpsuits?

Happy Friday, friends! It's been a helluva week, and I can't wait to get to the weekend.

Looking Ahead - Summer 2011

Even though Charlotte experienced a cold-ish snap this past weekend (highs in the 40's), I'm thinkin' of summer. Shorts and silk tops, bright bags and bold colors. Bring.It.On. Soon, please!

With this in mind, I've started creating a summer wishlist for myself...focusing on the items that will round out my closet (especially since I now work from home). I have no need for work pants and tailored suits! Hooray.

A bold bag: Green, deep cerise, bright blue or another fun hue. Leather please and nothing I can physically fit into. I like large bags, but it doesn't have to be the size of a suitcase.
White flares - denim: I'm diggin' J Brand's Lovestory, but I'm open to trying on a few.
Wedges: Of all kinds. Espadrilles. Cork. Jute. I'll take 'em all.
Easy, transitional pieces: Includes a denim jacket, silk tops and tunics that can easily move from day to night with the right accessories.
Maxi skirt: We've been here already. Still on the prowl for a perfectly fitting maxi skirt. Or two. Or three.

I do not have pretty feet. I'll just throw that out there. I have the tiniest toe nails on the planet (seriously they look like little Chiclets) and from the myriad of exercise and running I engage in, my feet just aren't so hot. So, anything that makes my feet/legs look even remotely attractive and is comfortable = a total win in my book.

When I popped into new, local Charlotte boutique Coral I was in awe of the incredible items they had in the shop but also fell in love with TKEES. These slim, super comfy and simple leather flip flops are perfection for summer. They come in a variety of finishes, offer many shades (both nude colors and brights) and are a dressier option when Havianas just won't cut it. While they seem a bit pricey for a pair of flips ($45-$50), I imagine the cost per wear will be ridiculously low. I plan to pretty much live in these.

If you're purchasing online, go with your regular size or a bit larger as they run a tiny bit on the small side. i.e. I'm usually a 7.5 or 8 and the 8 fits just right (full sizes only, btw). While TKEES isn't selling on their website yet, it looks like it will happen very soon. In the meantime, you can score these sweet little flip flops at a myriad of online retailers - many highlighted in the set below.

While I purchased the shade "Cocoa Butter," I tossed together a set of fabu options and colors for you to gaze at. Happy shopping!

Fun, isn't it?! So, today's product review revolves around an item that was included in my March Birchbox - Pangea Organics Lip Balm. The scent/flavor/type that was sent to me is the Italian Red Mandarin & Rose. This .25 oz. lip balm retails for $12. And just for a references, my other fave lip balm, Burt's Bees, costs roughly $2.99 for .15 oz.

The Bad: The retail price is quite steep for a lip balm - regardless of how amazing it feels and smells.

The Verdict: This balm earns a solid B from me. I love the scent, the smooth product and the philanthropy associated with the brand. Even though you most certainly get more balm per tube, it's still a bit pricey!

It's time for a product review, kids!

Up for review today is Bliss' Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask...

I scored a sample of this mask through a Sephora purchase a few months back and I've just been waiting to try it. Oxygen?! Yes, please.

Some details from Sephora:

A frothy mask that releases oxygen into the skin, so your complexion is instantly brighter, fresher, and younger-looking.

What it is formulated to do:
Instantly delivers a shot of oxygen, a powerhouse form of vitamin C, time-released antioxidants, and a moisture fix, to spiff up your complexion when it's looking and feeling lackluster.

What else you need to know:
Inspired by Bliss Spa's most-famous facial, which gives skin the energy it needs for everyday metabolism, collagen synthesis, and detoxifying action.

My review:

The Good: Frothy fun! Follow the directions and your skin will be dewy and moisturized in minutes. I was really happy with the outcome and the product was indeed light & airy. Even though the price isn't cheap, you really don't need that much product to achieve the glowy after effects.

The Bad: Pricey, baby, pricey. $52 for 3.4 oz isn't a value by any means.

The Verdict: A- from me. I really like the consistency and results, I just wish it was a bit more affordable!

Ah Target. When I enter your doors I cannot escape without spending at least $100. Yes. This is even when the only three things on my list are chapstick, laundry detergent and a greeting card.

Alas, spring& summer gear has started to roll out onto the Target floor (and website) and I spy piles of affordable, cute things to crave. Major note of contention - petites! Yes, Target has offered petites for months now, but it's nice to see a few very cute dresses with that sizing. (great for my not-so-long legs). Hooray!

It's been a while since I've posted a celeb style stalker, but Nicole Richie looked so lovely in her Givenchy chocolate brown leather dress, I just had to recreate.

Confession - I love wedges. LOVE them. They give my midget legs a boost and are comfortable to boot. Thus, I'm deliriously happy that wedges are still very much in style. I waxed poetic about wedges last May and, clearly, I just can't help myself...

I scored an adorable pair of wedges at Dilliard's this weekend and it most certainly inspired me to search for spring & summer's best stacked sandals...

Here's what I purchased this weekend...

While hubs isn't the biggest fan of these Gianni Bini "Gilligan" sandals, I adore them. Super tall, genuine leather hugging the sides, comfy and a touch of kitsch. Plus, they're neutral enough to sport with plenty of jeans, shorts, dresses, etc. If you like 'em, order your regular shoe size.

And my review...

The Good: I love the concept and the effort to make skincare pure, plus no animal testing! The product itself leaves my skin dewy and well moisturized. It's also great to know that this product does combat fine lines and wrinkles, too.

The Bad: This particular lotion does not have SPF 15 (although Puristics does have another daily lotion that does). And while I fully appreciate that there are no additives to this product, I wasn't crazy about the scent.

The Verdict: Earns a solid B from me! I dig the concept, the intention and the pure outcome.

Trend #5 for Spring 2011 is chock full of bold prints. Dresses, tops, even bags are sporting big, bold prints. Whether you're print shy or adore a slammin' print, there is definitely something for everyone. I'm especially adoring the Tolani tunics and silk tops in addition to that very gorgeous strapless dress by Jessica Simpson. Yes, I'm surprised too.

The Bad: The price is a bit high, IMO. It seems as if I have to use a bit more product vs. MAC paints (.23 oz. for $16.50).

The Verdict: It's a nice product, especially when you can score it in a value package like Sephora is offering here, right now. And I love their face primer. So, will I rebuy? Not sure, especially when I compare it to other products that I love.

Spring 2011: Trend Time #4: Never Ending Neutrals

Still on spring time trends, friends! Charlotte has had the most amazing run of stunning weather...to the tune of 60-70 degrees, so spring is most definitely on my mind!

Trend #4 for Spring 2011 is even more neturals! We've seen tons of white dresses during awards season and be prepared to see even more neutral shoes, skirts, tops, etc. in your favorite stores within a few short weeks. And it's not as if neutrals have been "out" but just prepare yourself for every shade of white, camel, beige, brown and more!
