Cubicle to Cocktails: A Little More Ann Taylor

Hi all! Only one more day 'til Friday. Thank God.

For today's edition of Cubicle to Cocktails, I wanted to send a little more love to Ann Taylor. The designers over at AT are surrriouly working it out. Bra-vo.

I love a sheer shirt with a pencil skirt and some punchy peep toes for the cubicle look. This top makes an easy transition to a casual cocktail look with some bright straw wedges (hello yellow). The bag and the necklace can also come along for cocktails, bringing some bling and an extra pop of color.

BTW - the skirt shown in the cubicle look (J. Crew's Unagi Tweed Pencil Skirt in Antique Violet) is super intriguing to me. Love love love that color. Anyone tried it on?

What do you think about today's cubicle to cocktails?

Cubicle to Cocktails...Really Delicious, Expensive Cocktails!

Happy Thursday everyone! Because I got some very kind feedback, I have decided to continue the Thursday Special: Cubicle to Cocktails!

As I noted last week, I'm a big fan of dresses for the transitional look...they are just so easy. And the particular dress below may seem a bit dressy for the office, and that's ok! I know many ladies who have a bundle of great dresses and just need a bit of updated, more office appropriate styling.

So, I took a floral satin piece and warmed it up with a basic white button down, toasty little cardigan and nude fishnets. If you're more reserved you could certainly pull on opaque tights instead of the nude fishies.

To move this into cocktail attire, I just removed the plain button down and added a slate gray velvet jacket an loads 'o pearls.

What do you think?

Do you have any dresses that you could convert to chic office wear?

Honey, Put DOWN that Coupon

Normally I don't post on the weekend, but I just had to share...

Oh dear husband. We talked about this a few weeks ago. He occasionally makes the error in judgement (see "Shop Blockin"), but today he tried to throw away my J Crew coupon. He picked up the little red 20% off of ANY size order (that you can find in your J Crew catalog btw!) and started walking towards the kitchen. Here's how it went down:

Todd: What's this, babe? (as he picks up the little red treasure)

Coley: That's my J Crew coupon...it's 20% off! (smiles)

Todd: Oh, but you don't need that....isn't there a minimum or something? (continues to walk away with the treasure)

Coley: UM, no, there is not a minimum, so please put DOWN my coupon (giving him the stink eye)

Todd: Ooooookkk....got it. Putting coupon down. You should go blog about that.

Coley: I think I just may....thank you. (smiles sweetly)

So, kids, moral of the story...don't shop block me and don't you dare thief my coupons. Again, take a dive into your J Crew catalogues for a 20% of coupon for any size order at JCrew.com through November 29.

Enjoy!

WTF Friday: J. Crew Gwen Dress

Ok, now, before I reveal my WTF Friday, I preface it by saying, I love J. Crew. I really do. I think they make great pieces.

Now, my WTF Friday is this lovely dress at J. Crew. I don't say WTF because of the design - I think it's so chic, seriously. My issue is that is $2,000. Yes. That's right, 2 grand. J. Crew. Whaaat?

J Crack...is this dress slathered in diamond chips? Or perhaps you're leasing out some online space to Chanel?

I understand that the first lady loves her some J Crizzle, but $2,000?!? It's not a wedding dress. It's a cocktail dress. If you want to make couture, create a design house brand or outsource that talent.

Any WTF comments to contribute?

The One (or many) That Got Away....J Crew Mica Mini

Don't you just hate it when you try on, or just see something online, that is gorgeous, beautiful that you just have to have it? But you just don't pull the trigger.

You choose to wait, citing lack of funds, or you don't really "need" the item in question, yada, yada. But then, days later after reconsidering, you really feel as if your life will not be complete without this item in question. You stealthily return back to the store, or check online, and discover that the item is gone, out of stock, never to return again.

Although many savvy shopper may attribute this to "it just wasn't meant to be", I think that's a load of crap. I think I just hesitated too long. Booooooooo!

So, in honor of the one (or the many that got away), post your item that got away. Mine, for the day, is the Mica Mini from J Crew. They no longer have it in my size online and my B&Ms are totally sold out of them, tear.

Share your loss... :)

Holy Cuteness, Hollister...Am I 17 Again?

So, I remember when I was in high school and early college and Hollister and Abercrombie were *the* top spots to get your jeans and summer wear. Since then, I really haven't step foot into a Hollister for fear that I would have the urge to purchase destroyed jeans and a Hawaiian tank.

However, I checked out Hollister's website the other day, and there are some very cute items there that would actually look bode well for adults! Some of these blazers and jackets are reminiscent of J Crew.

The jacket in the upper left hand corner reminds me of a cross between J Crew's Downtown Field Jacket and the Poplin Cargo Jacket. Here's a few items that I thought were super cute...now if I could only find a way to yank off that Hollister seagull logo...

What do you think?

Chambray Three Ways

Chambray, i.e. the jean-looking material, has been making its way into shirts, dresses, skirts, etc. I used to have quite an aversion to this material, but done right, it can look super sharp. With Independence Day just around the corner, I wanted to feature this lovely fabric in a few different ensembles. But before we get to the eye candy, I concocted a few chambray rules.

Coley's chambray rules are as follows:

1. Keep it clean. Although chambray is a throwback fabric, make sure its worn crisply and cleanly. You are not a mechanic; do not dress like one. I love a dark chambray shirt with tailored white shorts.
2. Do not mix chambray with loads of denim. Now, if you're mixing a chambray shirt with super dark denim, no problem. If you're wearing a chambray skirt with a jean jacket, that's a no.
3. Make sure it's fitted. A fellow blogger Gigi, of Gigi's Gone Shopping, wrote great reviews on both of J Crew's chambray shirts. While J Crew's newest chambray offering is fantastic, the first one looks and fits like prison garb. Not cute. Take a look...this is a cute chambray shirt that fits well, this is not.
4. Dress it up. Chambray is a great casual textile but can also be dressed up beautifully. Add a statement necklace, heels or a bold clutch to spice up your casual duds.

Here are just a few chambray options for your enjoyment!
