Sassy SAG Awards - Valentine's Edition?

Hey folks! Welcome to Monday.

Let's recap some stunners at the SAG awards, shall we?! There were just so many pretties, I found many of my faves in two main color categories - Red & White. Can we say Valentine's Day?!

Lots of gorgeous red dresses...

I think Mila Kunis' dress was my fave overall. I love the ethereal cut & the vibrant print. Plus, it's a gorgeous homage to Alexander McQueen.

Which was your fave SAG gown?!

Spring 2011: Trend Time #1 - Wide Leg Trousers

It's (almost) spring. Well not really, but we can dream. Spring trends are already filling up every imaginable retail outlet and it's still frickin' freezing. But, I like to plan ahead! So, each Thursday for the next five weeks I'm going to highlight one wearable spring trend.

Today spring trend highlight is wide leg trousers. Yeah, yeah, for many wide leg trousers have never gone out of style. But pair them with a slightly fitted top, tucked in dolman blouse or strong shoulder top and chic is what you get.

Many a mag are showing these pantalones super long, practically covering the shoes. Just be sure to balance your overall volume with a cinching belt or jacket - no one looks hot in a trash bag.

Here are a couple pieces I'm a fan of...

Product Review: Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara, B

Happy Monday to all! I'm pretty sick of this "cold' weather in Charlotte...and it's not even that cold. I'm ready for sandals and pretty pedicures and flats and WARM. Oh well. I can dream.

Up for product review today is Revlon's newest mascara: Grow Luscious. I wasn't thrilled with Revlon's Doubletwist mascara I tried a few months back. However, Revlon's PR reps reached out and sent me a tube of this little baby to try out.

Details from Revlon:
  • Lash enhancing formula complements the natural growth cycle of your lashes, improving their overall appearance and conditioning with each use
  • Get lashes that look instantly longer and lusher and will also grow stronger day after day
  • Oversized lash-extending brush
  • Ophthalmologist tested

And my review:

The Good: The mascara does lengthen and condition my lashes. It's also fairly easy to layer on an additional coat if you're looking for some drama. I also didn't experience any flaking or major raccoon eyes, either.

The Bad: Although this product touts the growth component (in the title & description), I didn't see any changes to my natural lash length.

The Verdict: This mascara earns a solid B from me. It's a smooth, consistent product that does seem to lengthen my lashes. I wish I could get a bit more volume from the product, but overall it's a nice mascara.

Golden Globes Dress Review!

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great weekend. I'm currently in a work conference most of the week, but I did get a chance to peruse through the Golden Globe gown photos last night...

While you can make groups of gowns to go on forever, here are a few trending gown types I saw...some in multiple categories, of course!
  1. Sequin explosion: Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Wilde, Sandra Bullock, Melissa Leo, Carrie Underwood
  2. One shoulder sweeping gowns: Amy Adams, Lea Michelle, Julianne Moore, Mila Kunis
  3. Minimalist: Emma Stone, Claire Danes
  4. Backless/bare back: Eva Longoria, Emma Stone,  Anne Hathaway
  5. Popular shades: Pale pink, Green, Blue, Red, White, Black
And here are some of my favorite gowns overall:

Angelina Jolie: This emerald green Atelier Versace is stunning, IMO. So nice to see her in something other than black or a muted neutral. I'm really adoring this shade with her coloring, too.

Sandra Bullock: While I'm not diggin' the super heavy bangs on Sandra's gorgeous face, I love this Jenny Packham gown. It's a classic drape but also has tons of visual interest.

Jennifer Lawrence: I'm not incredibly familiar with her work (she was nominated for Winter's Bone) but girlfriend turned.it.out. in this Louis Vuitton dress. Ruffles can be super overpowering but the corseted fit and slit in this dress make it fresh.

Mandy Moore: You don't see Mandy Moore frolicking along the red carpet too often, so it's lovely to see her in this Monique Lhuillier stunner. I love the frothy tulle and the fit of this dress.

Anne Hathaway: This Armani Prive is just gorgeous on Anne Hathaway. Kudos to Rachel Zoe for styling - keeping Anne fresh faced and fuss free in this heavy gown.

With so many gorgeous dresses, who do you think looked the best?

Fabulous Friday: I'll Have Some of That KoolAid

It's Frrrrrrrrrriday! About time, isn't it?!

For today's Fabulous Friday I have two ladies who look positively smashing...and they are both styled by the uber talented and expecting, Rachel Zoe.

First up, Cameron Diaz...

Flaw.Less. Love the hair, the makeup, the dress, the nude shoe. This photo makes me want to go run a marathon and then buy a stunning, one shoulder red dress. Oh, and grow a foot taller so I'll look this lean in it.

And zen we have Demi Moore - who has somehow escaped the hands of time, because she looks younger (and IMO, better) at 48 than 28. I'd like some of that KoolAid, please.

Seriously. 48?! Woman looks amazing. And this fun little zippy number is chic. The shoulder pop looks a little strange, but I suppose it adds to the overall interest in the dress.

That's it for today, folks! Thoughts on Fabulous Friday?

Product Review: Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleaning System, A

Happy Monday everyone! Charlotte (where I reside) is absolutely covered in snow - so many folks have quite the snow day today! I, on the other hand, work from home so it's actually quite a quiet day for me to hunker down and get some work done.

As for today's product review, we have Olay's newest gadget - Olay Professional Pro X Advanced Cleaning System. Yep, it's $30 and a nice (lower cost) dupe for Clarisonic. I picked mine up at Walgreens, which is also offering a free cleanser with the purchase of the system - up to a $19.99 value! You can grab that deal in-store or online.
Details from Olay:
Professional Skin Expertise Leading dermatologists and Olay skin scientists have partnered to establish the Olay Professional Alliance. Through this partnership, Pro-X was created to bring you prescribed regiments to treat your specific skin concerns. Advanced Cleaning System Cleanses skin 6x better* and helps maximize the immediate hydrating effectiveness of your anti-aging moisturizer. Professionally Designed with the following Features:
  • 2-Speed, rotating system delivers deep cleansing and gentle exfoliation
  • Water resistant for use in the shower
  • Replaceable soft bristle brush head (included). Refills available.
  • Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser (sample included) recommended for daily exfoliation. Cleansing brush can also be used with a broad range of Olay cleansers for daily deep cleansing.
  • 2 AA batteries also included

    * vs basic cleansing
And onto my review:

The Good: Clean, baby, clean! I looove this system. Both settings definitely give my skin a deep clean and my face is supa soft after cleansing. I elected the exfoliator for my free cleanser and I'm very, very happy with it.

The Bad: The second speed may be a bit much for some. Also, the battery compartment is tough to open - go ahead and locate a flathead screwdriver now. You'll probably need it to pop open the compartment.

The Verdict: A all the way. Great system, great cleaning and the replacement brush heads aren't too pricey - $10.99 for two. You'll need to replace every 3 months or so.

Product Review: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss, A

Why hello there, 2011! And happy new year to everyone! Hope you dig the new blog layout.

On tap for a product review today is one of my personal favorites....and I can't believe I haven't composed a proper review for it yet! Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipgloss.

It's a drugstore gem and I adore it. So much so, that I've tried it in just about every color imaginable. My fave shades include: Pink Whisper, Pearl Plum, Pink Pursuit and Firecracker. Price wise, I've found this fab gloss on BOGO and buy one get one 50% off, fairly often. Otherwise, expect to pay $5-$8 per tube.

Here are the details from Revlon:
Silky...Sexy...Brilliant. Glossy formula combines sheer color and intense moisture with light-reflecting spheres to create amazing shine. SPF 15

And my review:

The Good: An awesome array of shades - some more pigmented than others. The consistency is just about perfect, a nice smooth texture and very little tackiness. Plus, 10% of all sales of the Pink Pursuit shade (on of my fave colors) will be donated to fight breast cancer.

The Bad: Very little to report here...I seriously love this product.

The Verdict: A all the way. It's a fab, affordable gloss with a nice variety of shades!
