Chambray Three Ways

Chambray, i.e. the jean-looking material, has been making its way into shirts, dresses, skirts, etc. I used to have quite an aversion to this material, but done right, it can look super sharp. With Independence Day just around the corner, I wanted to feature this lovely fabric in a few different ensembles. But before we get to the eye candy, I concocted a few chambray rules.

Coley's chambray rules are as follows:

1. Keep it clean. Although chambray is a throwback fabric, make sure its worn crisply and cleanly. You are not a mechanic; do not dress like one. I love a dark chambray shirt with tailored white shorts.
2. Do not mix chambray with loads of denim. Now, if you're mixing a chambray shirt with super dark denim, no problem. If you're wearing a chambray skirt with a jean jacket, that's a no.
3. Make sure it's fitted. A fellow blogger Gigi, of Gigi's Gone Shopping, wrote great reviews on both of J Crew's chambray shirts. While J Crew's newest chambray offering is fantastic, the first one looks and fits like prison garb. Not cute. Take a look...this is a cute chambray shirt that fits well, this is not.
4. Dress it up. Chambray is a great casual textile but can also be dressed up beautifully. Add a statement necklace, heels or a bold clutch to spice up your casual duds.

Here are just a few chambray options for your enjoyment!
